What causes paint failure?

I was doing internet searches on a rainy day and found this PDF on paint failure by the US Forest Service. It applies to wood siding but
a lot of it applies to any siding.
I have found that moisture in the main cause of paint failure!
Breaking news!

Well we are now a Wolman Certified contractor. Well it is not a big deal to most people but I did have to print out a large manual and take a test to get certified. Now we must primarily use Wolman products while doing decks. We are doing sample decks in neighborhoods around town. This is limited to only one deck per neighborhood so be fast to get the special discounted price. We also are limiting this to 4 or 5 decks.
We will clean unstained decks or strip the old stain and re-stain the deck with a Wolman color of your choice.
Even new decks should be cleaned before sealing!
So why not give us a call to set up a time for us to come out and give you a re consultation.

Trust must be earned

I want to address trust in this post. I think it is very important that you trust whoever is working around your home. Not just to do a good job but will they show up when they say they will. Will they tell you the truth even if it should mean they will not get the job. Will they be honest about everything

.

We try our best to give a truthful answer to your questions. If we do not know something we will say so and try to find the answer for you.

We have worked in many homes where the owner trusted us to be there when they were at work. Not something I enjoyed but they did trust us. I really would rather they had been home but that is not always possible. We just go about doing our job like they are at home. Being careful not to disturb anything we do not have to in order to complete our tasks.

We do not smoke, drink or do drugs and never have. We strive to always be on time for appointments and to arrive the same time everyday weather permitting.

I attend Oakwood Baptist Church in Chattanooga and have for several years now with my wife. My wife is a paralegal for a Chattanooga attorney.

Martin Brothers Paintingis a painting contractor you can trust and we want to earn your trust.
Drop cloths

Today I was reading where a painter was saying he rarely ever use a drop cloth when rolling ceilings. That is just crazy! We always use drop cloths to cover the floor and plastic to cover furniture and other items while painting walls and ceilings. We cover sidewalks, porches and driveways. We cover bushes and plants if needed.
I would never say I was so good I did not need a drop cloth. So beware of painters without drop cloths! No one is perfect.

A yahoo user asks, I am painting room.

I am painting my room. Does red & bubblegum/hot pink go together?

I wanted to paint 3 of my bedroom walls pink & then the main wall red but im not sure if this will go? also i thought of 3 pink walls and one black wall but im scared the black wall will make my room look very dark. help please!

I said.
" I have been a painter for 25 years and I would never paint a wall black. As far as red and pink that just makes me a little sick but it is you room and you can always repaint. Go to a paint store and pick the colors you think you want to use. Ask someone that works there what they think. Pink always looks brighter than the sample so be careful."

This question can not really be addressed without knowing the shade she is thinking about. There are a lot of gross pink shades. You have to be very careful when picking out shades of paint. What looks good on the paint chip may look awfuller on the walls. My advise is to ask a person at the paint store if the have a decorator on staff to help you.
A tip about so called screened contractors.

When looking for home improvements contractor , watch out for companies who states they pre-screen contractors for you. All these companies do, is to get your referral to as many contractors they can that pay them for the service. They sell leads to the contractors who are listed with them and collect huge fees, $25-$30 a lead even if they do not get the job. This can add hundreds of dollars to the final cost. Just think about it this way. Someone has to pay in the end and it's going to be you. Your cost will be for your lead and others where they did not get the job And since they really don't pre-screen the contractors why not save yourself some money and call up the companies yourself. This is a free tip from www.MartinBrothersPainting.com a licensed painting company located in Red Bank TN.

We clean gutters!

It's me again! I just want to quickly say we clean gutters. This is something I know you all hate to do and a lot of us put it off. I know I have. Gutters should be cleaned out in the fall after all the leave have fallen. Then again in the spring a lot of people need them cleaned out again. Please do not let your down spouts stop up. This can lead to problems like rotten wood and peeling paint and water sometimes can get into your home. Another thing it is a good idea to have splash blocks at each down spout to drain the water away from your house. We can install these too if needed. They come in plastic, concrete and sometime in fiberglass.
