When I started painting it was easy to pick a masking tape. There was tan type and it was not great. It is still being made and it is cheap. We never use it anymore because it can be hard to remove even after being applied just a few minutes. It does stick well sometimes but maybe a little too well for my taste.

We were painting for a client on Signal Mountain this week.  Paul and I were painting a master bedroom and we over heard the clients four year old daughter say Scot and Paul are magical. So I guess we are the magical painters. I told her mother that her daughter made my day. That was so sweet. Their other daughter made us a thank you card four years ago when we painted her bedroom. This is not common knowledge but earlier this year Sherwin William bought Valspar. I have been asking myself what this will mean for our customers that have used Valspar paint in the past. Valspar Duramax has been our go to exterior pant for years. It has been very good and I hope Sherwin Williams does not monkey around with it and keeps the Valspar brand. We have been this amazing product for a year now. It takes work but it is well worth it. It is not a spray and hose off product and takes some mussel to get them clean but your gutters will look like new when done. Be sure to get the Gutter mop to use on a long paint pole. It is needed if you do not want to scrub from a ladder. Most of the time one story homes are a breeze. A two story home is not as simple.

Yes vinyl siding can be painted and in the past it needed to be painted a lighter or similar shade.  But Sherwin Williams now has VinylSafe colors technology. Using their special color pallet you do not have to choose a similar or lighter than your old siding. Heat absorption has been the problem in the past. When it comes to painting the inside of your home you should want a low or Zero VOC paint. It is much healthier for you and the person doing the painting.

There are now many more to chose from by most if not all brands. I am sure this trend will only be growing.

Benjamin Moore has a great new waterborne Alkyd for trim and cabinets. It is not cheap but neither is oil base paint and it is not low VOC and smells to the high heaven unlike the waterborne Alkyds that have low odor and are Low VOC.

Well we are now a Wolman Certified contractor. Well it is not a big deal to most people but I did have to print out a large manual and take a test to get certified. Now we must primarily use Wolman products while doing decks. We are doing sample decks in neighborhoods around town. This is limited to only one deck per neighborhood so be fast to get the special discounted price. We also are limiting this to 4 or 5 decks.

Today I was reading where a painter was saying he rarely ever use a drop cloth when rolling ceilings. That is just crazy! We always use drop cloths to cover the floor and plastic to cover furniture and other items while painting walls and ceilings. We cover sidewalks, porches and driveways. We cover bushes and plants if needed.
I would never say I was so good I did not need a drop cloth. So beware of painters without drop cloths! No one is perfect.

Most people want paint to cover in one coat. Very few paints will cover in one coat over any color. Some will cover over a lighter color.
If the can says one coat coverage it may just do it for a pro but maybe not a do it for a non pro. Even I have a hard time getting some paint to cover in one coat.

Hello Folks,
I got the free shed plans. Here is what you get. You get a 8x10 shed plan in PDF format and is 13 pages.Three of the thirteen are how to frame a wall. It is a very helpful plan. The second plan is a web page so the way I saved it was to email it to myself. I then highlighted the main part of it without the ad and coped it to a Word doc then saved it. There system was slow to email me the link to plans so give it a hour or so.

1. New drywall (Sheetrock is a brand name) needs to be primed with a primer like Firstcoat or one of the other Sheetrock primers. Most builders skip this step because of the cost. I have painted for years and we only used it for about a year or two because most people would not pay the cost. Then they would complain about the way the walls look.
2.  Another thing that can make the walls look bad is a poor drywall finisher. It has not been finished enough to sand but they do it anyway.
